Another post that has been a page to follow on from my R is for…..Racism. This should now make a seven day streak. How exciting!
However, I think I shall give up streaking after this. We’ll see what WordPress does with 7 days in a row.

It seems that the term is relatively recent in the history of the world. Wiktionary says it was coined in 1902 by the French. And defines it as:
-
-
- ‘Belief that there are distinct human races with inherent differences which determine their abilities, and generally that some are superior and others inferior.
-
-
-
- The policies, practices, or systems (e.g. government or political) promoting this belief or promoting the dominance of one or more races over others.
-
-
-
- Prejudice or discrimination based upon race or ethnicity; (countable) an action of such discrimination.’
-
It goes on to say that a racist is ‘A person who believes in or supports racism; a person who believes that a particular race is superior to others.’
All very reasonable it seems. However, it assumes there are distinct human races as opposed to one human race. And as you will hopefully have read in R is for…..Race, I have said there is only one human race.
So we should be saying people are being ‘familyist’ when talking about differences between the pale faces and the dark faces, the pale skinned and the dark skinned. Or perhaps nationalist or tribalist. But not racist.
Using the word racist is just trying to divide where there is no division, and is therefore foolish. So if someone says there are different human races just call them an idiot instead.
The root cause of the use of the word in modern terms actually comes from the theory of evolution. You only have to read Charles Darwin’s views to see it. It has resulted in the two World Wars. Germany made a big thing of it, especially under Hitler. But that’s what happens when you believe a lie, that there are different human races.
But it is self-evident there are differences between tribes and nations, men and women.
And there will be problems within families. Right at the start of history it is recorded that Cain killed his brother Abel. And all because Cain wouldn’t do the right thing and Abel did.
Cain was jealous and wanted to take what wasn’t his. Pink Floyd sang ‘With, without, and who’ll deny it’s what the fighting’s all about?’ on their classic album Dark Side of the Moon.
And James, the half-brother of Jesus, says:
‘What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you? You crave what you do not have. You kill and covet, but are unable to obtain it. You quarrel and fight.’
It comes from chapter 4 of James letter in the New Testament. I recommend reading the whole chapter to get the full picture.
If you do what James says and humble yourself before God, then your problems will become resolved and you can be at peace with your brother, or sister, pale skinned or dark skinned, or anything in between.
And don’t use the word racism or racist, please.

P.S. If you have not seen it, here is my page on Race. R is for…..Race
P.P.S I have recently read this post on Scatter Wisdom and I consider well worth reading.
